Continental Tide recently expanded the use of its Workflow, Assessment, Verification, & Evaluation (WAVE) application tool with a compatible application for the Apple Watch. Previously a tablet-only application, Continental Tide has expanded the versatility of the WAVE application to allow some of the components of the WAVE system to be used on the new device. This new functionality allows WAVE users to complete their tasks faster and more efficiently.
The ideas behind the new functional features came about from feedback from Continental Tide’s field personnel and other WAVE users. While the tablet provided an immense relief from the necessity of carrying heavy paper documentation, drawings, and books of information such as technical manuals, new technology with the watch are making certain tasks easier. The integration to the Apple Watch has allowed WAVE users more convenient access to major functions of the application, all from their wrist.
“The integration of the Apple Watch into WAVE’s arsenal was developed for ease of use for certain function of the application. The Apple Watch allows us to capture specific metrics such as time tracking alarm tests to ensure the most accurate readings are obtained and recorded for a more complete and thorough assessment of equipment,” said Continental Tide’s WAVE Lead Engineer Zachary Haupt.
The new WAVE Apple Watch extension includes a custom timing application that allows the user to not only take accurate readings without another tool, but also to set alarms for equipment parameters to ensure they are all within the required specifications. Visual, audible, and haptic feedback alert the user to satisfactory or unsatisfactory results based on their criteria.
“WAVE’s use of the Apple Watch is just another way Continental Tide is changing the way assessments are conducted,” said Continental Tide Director of Engineering Russ Leinbach.
“Continental Tide continues to lead the way in innovation and expects to expand WAVE’s reach to new areas of opportunity in the coming year,” he said.
