Continental Tide’s Workflow, Assessment, Verification and Evaluation (WAVE) application excelled during its latest utilization aboard the USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD 52). Continental Tide’s team performed an assessment of the current condition of the ship’s ballast system. The ballast system stabilizes the vessel during on-loading and off-loading of equipment and during normal sailing operations.
Utilizing the WAVE application tool, configured to support the USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD 49) class ballast system, Continental Tide’s team of three engineers completed the assessment, along with associated repairs to equipment, in less than a week. Loaded on portable handheld devices, the assessment tool was configured with assessment check sheets for the various components of the ballast system. The tablet provided necessary assessment inputs, technical documentation references and final report outputs, enabling the job to not only be completed faster and more efficiently, but also providing a greater level of completeness and accuracy.
“The tool offered instant access to all necessary drawings and technical publications to ensure an accurate and on-time assessment completion,” said Continental Tide Project Lead Stephen Ferrazzara.
“It allowed us to focus on our job of ensuring a complete and accurate assessment of the entire system, instead of spending valuable time locating drawing packages or searching through technical publications. The on-demand information was invaluable in finishing on schedule,” he said.
Continental Tide continues to make improvements to its WAVE application tool. Many of the features and updates are a result of the feedback from the company’s personnel working with the application in the field.
“We hope to continue to expand the reach of our WAVE application tool in the future. We see the value added to all of our teams that utilize the application and see the benefits that it can provide on a much larger scale,” said Continental Tide Director of Engineering Russ Leinbach.
“In the meantime, we will continue to make WAVE the best product it can possibly be, and ensure that our teams continue to be the best equipped to serve our nation’s Armed Forces,” he said.
